In the middle of June we decided to take the kids on a last minute trip to Galveston. It was seriously last minute: like I booked the hotel Tuesday night and we left Wednesday morning at 6:00! We stayed in Galveston three nights and had the best time. Ryan and I love going on little trips with the kids. We both have such wonderful memories of the family vacations we took as kids and we want our children to have those amazing memories too. It doesn't matter where we go, as long as we are together!
All loaded up and ready to roll!
Our hotel was great and we had a view of the pool and ocean.
As soon as we got settled in to our room, we suited up and headed to the beach. The weather was perfect all three days and the kids loved digging in the sand.
Unfortunately, the seaweed on the Texas coast was OUT OF CONTROL. Some spots were knee high. Needless to say, we stayed in the sand and did not make it in to the water after our first try.
So we can't swim, let's just take beach selfies!
Later that night, we headed back to the beach to search for crabs. I have such fond memories of vacations in Galveston with my family walking the beaches at night, flashlights in hand looking for crabs. Such a silly little thing that stuck with me all this time. Of course, we forgot our flashlights, but thankfully had our phones with us and they worked just perfectly. We actually found a lot of little crabs and had the best time chasing them down and listening to all the sweet giggles.
On Thursday, we spent almost the whole day in the pool. Leah and Ty were such little fish and LOVED the pool.
We took a little break from swimming and rode the ferry. It was really fun and we even saw quite a few dolphins!
On Friday night, we visited Pleasure Pier which was just five minutes away from our hotel. We had driven by it multiple times and the kids would squeal every time. So when we finally drove up and parked, they were just beside themselves.
The first thing we rode was the Ferris wheel. Well, I was so nervous on this ride I thought I might throw up. I don't know how I rode all those rides at Six Flags as a teenager! Ryan and I were a little tense the whole time, but the kids loved it.
We tried to get a family picture before we left, but it was 11:30 by this point and Ty was not having it.
We had a wonderful time and have had fun listening to the kids talk about it. Leah even asked me tonight when we could go back to Pleasure Pier! It is really neat to step out of our everyday routine and just soak in time as a family without all of the distractions. We are so incredibly blessed and look forward to our next family getaway.
